  • The Ghana Oil Club (GOC) in partnership with Business World Ghana and Hired Capital today announced the 1st Oil and Gas Career Fair 2013’ scheduled for the 21stand 22nd February, 2013 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Event which is endorsed by the Ministry of Energy is aimed at practically addressing the challenges associated with the introduction of new workers into the sector.

The rationale behind the event is therefore to address one of the biggest challenges of local content in Ghana; that is, the lack of knowledge as to the requisite skills needed to gain employment in the industry, addressing the realities of employment in the sector, as well as providing a platform for exploration and service companies to demonstrate the opportunities that may exist within their various entities.

Speaking on the upcoming event, Marcia Ashong, Board Member of the GOC said “the event will bring together exploration, production and service companies as well as training institutions to share knowledge on their local employment initiatives and skills development plans as well as practically addressing the kinds of skills that are required along the oil and gas value chain. It is also important that the upcoming fair approaches the learning curve from a realistic perspective, that is, the demonstration that though certain skill-sets may be required to address capacity development, that in the same vein participants are aware that for such a nascent industry and the capacity of the market, that these opportunities would ideally grow with the corresponding growth of the industry.”

Kofi Mangesi, CEO of Business World said “with the discovery and production of oil in Ghana, there is the need to educate the Ghanaian youth on what career prospects exist in the sector in order to effectively manage expectations of the public at large.”

Leading International and local Oil and Gas companies as well as training institutions have signed up to be part of the fair. This includes four United Kingdom-based universities: Robert Gordon University, Dundee University, Aberdeen University, Cranfield University, all to be exhibitors at the fair.

The lead Operator of Jubilee field, Tullow Oil is the lead sponsor with several other companies including GE Oil and gas, Ghana Gas Company and Expro Gulf Ltd, as co-sponsors. Other exhibitors include: PFL, J-Prompt Professional Institute of Technology, Go Study Abroad and Sterling Projects.
