Four employees of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have joined Tullow Oil plc on secondment for two years, as part of the development of the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) oilfields of the country.

The four on secondment – George Asigbi, Abdul-Mumin Iddris, Kwasi Boadi and Uzziel Tetteh – will be based in Tullow Oil’s London headquarters, to help manage subsurface aspects of the development of Ghana’s second major oilfields, TEN, which lie 60 kilometres off the coast of the Western Region of Ghana.

They are the first set to start the programme and will be joined by more of their colleagues from GNPC later this year.

The secondment programme is part of the skills and knowledge transfer element outlined in the TEN Development Plan, which was approved by the Government of Ghana in May 2013.

The TEN Project development is being packaged to ensure that Ghana and Ghanaians benefit from the oil development.

According to the TEN Project Director, Mr Terry Hughes, the project is getting bright people with experience in Ghana’s oil industry and they will gain knowledge of Tullow’s world-class tools and methodologies which they will take back to Ghana.

“Ghana is near the beginning of its oil life cycle, so skills and knowledge transfer is vital. Who knows:  in the not too distant future, I hope we will see people from other countries coming to Ghana to learn about the oil industry.”

Mr Uzziel Tetteh, a Drilling Cost Engineer, said moving from a relatively different background with no experience in project controls, he was keen to learn how costs are controlled and managed on a major project  during the period of the secondment.

Mr Abdul-Mumin Iddris, a Production Technologist, whose role at GNPC included production monitoring for the Jubilee Field, Ghana’s first major oil project also operated by Tullow Oil, said his assignment to the TEN Project would involve well completion design, planning and execution, as well as production system modelling and flow rate allocation.

For his part, Geophysicist Kwasi Boadi, who has worked with GNPC since 2007, said at the end of the secondment he expects to gain invaluable experience in creating velocity models and learn different approaches to creating time-depth conversion in deepwater turbidite environment.

Mr George Asigbi, a Reservoir Engineer, expressed the hope that the secondment would help him develop competence in all software relevant to his career.

The TEN fields lie in the deepwater Tano block, around 60 kilometres offshore Ghana.  The reservoirs are spread over 800 square kilometres.
