AFAG dismisses accusations it opposed attempt to investigate EO Group, KOSMOS

  • Pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance has rejected claims that it protested government’s attempt to investigate the EO Group and KOSMOS.

New rival group, Alliance for Responsible Opposition (AFRO) claims AFAG criticized government heavily for investigating the EO Group, which has shares in KOSMOS.

The group also claims AFAG protested government’s plan to buy shares in KOSMOS, although the move was in the national interest.

AFRO says it has entered the political fray to ensure that the opposition acts responsibly in its attempts to put government on its toes.

But AFAG said AFRO got it all wrong and would do itself a lot of good if it interrogates the issues thoroughly before launching attacks on its opponents.

A leading member of AFAG, Samuel Awuku said the uninformed position of AFRO could be forgiven because the group was in its embryonic stages and barely had time to conduct any research into the issue.

He said at no point did AFAG oppose any attempt to investigate the EO Group and KOSMOS as claimed by AFRO.

What AFAG opposed, he said, was the government’s highhanded approach in dealing with the companies.

Mr. Awuku said his group was particularly concerned about the government’s actions in the matter because of the implications and consequences the decisions could have on the country’s business environment.

He said the government confiscated assets of the companies without authorization from a court of law, and that AFAG could not stand by while the government behaved in such capricious manner.

Opposing the government’s bullying tactics is not the same as opposing investigations into the activities of the EO Group and KOSMOS by the government, he argued.
