  • A former Co-ordinator of the Emergency Power Programme at the Ministry of Energy, Francis Gyata has revealed that personnel of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have confiscated his laptops, phones and other electronic devices after a raid at his home in Accra.

This was done at dawn on Tuesday, July 25 as part of ongoing investigations into the controversial $510million Ameri power deal.

It comes just a day after four officers of the CID led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on Monday dawn stormed the Spintex residence of former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, to the state.

Speaking about the raid on Tuesday, Mr Gyata said: “They [police] were in my house just before six and I drove back to the house and found four, six or so people in my house. They served me a warrant stating that they were looking for laptops and phones and that it was in connection with financial loss due to the Ameri power project but I don’t see why a technocrat like me should be subjected to this,” he told Accra-based Joy FM’s Israel Layea shortly after the raid.

Mr Gyata said he did not understand why his phone was also seized and demanded it be returned.
