AngloGold Ashanti Donates Medical Supplies To Flood Victims

  • anglogoldDriven by its value ofensuring that communities and societies where it operates benefit from its presence, AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited today donated GHC15, 000 worth of medical supplies including antibiotic injections, disinfectants and dressings to victims of the recent flood and fire disaster in Accra.

    The donation, made through the Ghana Police Service, was presented on behalf of the Company by Mr Fred Attakumah, Managing Director and wasreceived on behalf of the victims by the management of the Ghana Police Hospital in Accra.

    Mr Attakumah remarked that both management and employees of the Company wish the injured a speedy recovery and also mourn with Ghanaians in these difficult times. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with those who perished or were injured, and with their loved ones.

    The Managing Director said -“We, along with all stakeholders, must keep safety at the forefront of all we do to ensure we mitigate the effects of natural disasters, and take all necessary steps to prevent the occurrence of such incidents”. Mr. Attakumah further commended the medical team at the Police Hospital and other facilities in Accra for rising to the occasion by providing critical care to the victims.

    Receiving the items on behalf of the victims, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Amoo Mensahsaid commended AngloGold Ashanti for the donation and called on other companies to emulate the gesture, either in kind or cash to enable the hospital delievery befitting care to the victims. He was particularly grateful for the specific pharmaceuticals and medical supplies donated given that he met the real needs of the fire victims.

    Dr Amoo Mensah said some of the victims had been treated and discharged but there were others still receiving treatment in the police medical facility, and was confident about their prognosis.

    He assuredthe Company that the Hospital would use the drugs judiciously to reduce pain and suffering of the fire victims, adding,“With these essential drugs, many lives will be saved”.

    Present at the ceremony were Mr Sylvester Segbaya, Programme Director of AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Programme, Mrs.Juliet Kutin – Mensah, Head of Legal, Miss Ingrid Yeboah, Legal Officer and John Owusu, Corporate Affairs Department.
