The former boxing champion will be the face of the oil marketing company for the next year in all its promotional activities and Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
At the unveiling ceremony, the Managing Director of GOIL, Patrick A. K. Akorli, lauded the efforts and role of the retired boxer, describing him as an embodiment of devotion to duty, patriotism, and what is good about the Ghanaian. GOIL, he said, was sending a message of excellence as a proud, devoted Ghanaian entity.
He promised that just as Azumah upheld the country’s honour, GOIL will defend the country’s interest in its dealings with customers. He urged Ghanaians to help build a solid indigenous oil company to serve the people.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Afotey Agbo, lauded the choice of Azumah Nelson and asked GOIL to join hands with him to celebrate what is good about Ghana. Referring to the petroleum sector, he commended the decision to deregulate the sector, adding it had guaranteed regular supply of fuel and ensured competition in prices.
The Board Chairman of GOIL, Professor William Asomaning, referred to the discipline of the retired boxing champion and entreated Ghanaians to copy his sterling example.
Azumah Nelson described GOIL as a shining example of Ghanaian institutions, adding it is a company worthy of support and growth. He encouraged Ghanaians to patronise GOIL’s products and promised to work hard to promote the brand to make Ghana proud.
A plaque of Azumah Nelson as the new ambassador was unveiled while a new four-wheel drive was put at his disposal.
