CMTD Foundation Holds Maiden Edition of Oil and Gas Knowledge Sharing Session

  • In an event themed “Offshore Job Roles:  Requirement and Starting Off Right” the Centre for Maritime Training and Development Foundation (CMTD Foundation) held an oil and gas knowledge sharing session on July 21st, aimed at preparing and encouraging young people for offshore careers.

    Speaking to Ms. Rekia Larteykaa Gberbie, founder of CMTD Foundation, offshore and health, safety, security and environment issues are key in the oil and gas sector. Thus, knowing sector requirements and having prior knowledge and preparing for the sector is vital to grab opportunities which emerge. It is necessary for younger ladies to pursue courses and careers in oil & gas so they can make informed decisions about pursuing careers offshore. One will need to be abreast of safety requirement and training programmes designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements of the offshore oil & gas industry to new starts, giving an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel offshore. She said.

    According to   Ms Samira Ali, a resource person, working offshore is very challenging and require endurance and perseverance. One will usually spend between 28 and 35 days on board and have a few days off.

    She reiterated the need for interested persons to possess valid  Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) certificate and be ready to be accepted us trainees so as to garner the required experiences

    On offshore safety, Mr. Carlos Acheampong highlighted the need to obey safety rules especially by wearing the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) when working.
