DOCUMENTARY OF GHANA’S OIL PREMIERED

  • oil-dropsThe Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) on Thursday April 14, 2016 at the World Bank Offices in Accra premiered a 35 minute documentary on Ghana’s Oil find. The documentary produced in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale (GIZ) and Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) captures the high expectation from the Ghanaian citizenry oil find due but this is rather turning into despair and hopeless.

    The documentary looks at the highs and lows of the oil find such as the birth of oil and gas companies like Zeal and Seaweld Engineering Limited which are both Ghanaian owned companies and with lows such as the decreasing in livelihood of the indigenes of the oil exploration Western region where most of them are fishing dependent communities.

    The documentary draws attention to what need to be done to restore the hope of Ghanaians such as employment avenues in the oil and gas find for Ghanaians. It also draws attention to the fact, country needs to be build capacity in the oil and gas sector for most Ghanaians to become employable in the new sector.

    Mr Emmanuel Kuyole of the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and Dr Yao Graham of the Third World Network – Africa were the two discussants for the event.
