  • acepAs required by law, the state power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), is supposed to introduce a timetable for the lingering load shedding exercise that is affecting some parts of the country, especially the capital, Dr Muhammed Amin Adam, Executive Director of energy think tank, Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has said.

Several parts of Accra have witnessed power outages lately with some lasting between four and five hours.

Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Power on Tuesday said Nigeria has not been able to supply crude oil to Ghana although Accra has paid for the commodity.

According to Mr Jinapor, the situation has resulted in the erratic power supply.

“We are having some problems with even crude supply that we have paid for. They have not been able to deliver the crude,” he said on Accra-based Joy FM on Monday June 27.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3 on the same day, Dr Adam noted that ECG is bound by law to publish a timetable to allow consumers plan ahead of time.

“I expect that tomorrow [Tuesday] ECG will bring out a timetable for the load shedding,” he said, adding “if they don’t, they will be going against the law.”
