ECG: Areas without power may have localised outages

  • Localised faults could account for parts of the country not having their electricity restored after Wednesday night’s nationwide blackout, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has said.

The entire country was plunged into darkness on Wednesday night as a result of a system failure.

However as at 5pm on Thursday, May 4, 2017, about 80 to 90 per cent of power had been restored.

Speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday 5 May, the Public Relations Officer of Accra West ECG, Eric Asante, said the few areas still without electricity could be experiencing faults not arising from the nationwide blackout.

He urged places still without electricity to call their district ECG offices for help. “We plead with you to call our call centre line and our call centre will cascade this information to our fault men on the ground to rectify these problems. Most problems on the ground will now be localised. Sometimes you will energise the system but the feeders will fail to pick the customers back on supply, so we are asking our customers to report all pending outages to our nearest district offices so we can quickly go on this particular network and rectify this situation,” he stated.
