The Ministry of Energy has confirmed the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company (GCMC), Frances Essiam.

In a release from the Energy Ministry signed by its Director, Lawrence Apaalse, the Ministry acknowledged that it is in the know of latest happenings at GCMC, and it is working to resolve the issue.

The Ministry further stated that they are working with the State Enterprise Commission (SEC) to put the matter to rest, as some actions have already been taken concerning the issue.

“It has also come to the notice of the Ministry that the Board of the GCMC has, in a meeting held on 8 May 2018, suspended the CEO of the company and subsequently recommended the establishment of a committee to conduct investigations into an allegation of malpractices leveled against the CEO by a senior member of staff,” the release stated.

The CEO, Frances Essiam, had earlier denied being suspended while addressing workers of the GCMC at the company’s premises on Wednesday, May 9.

“All I am saying is that the appropriate authorities including the State Enterprise Commission are handling issues, and I am the substantive CEO, and I have come to work,” she told journalists.

Frances Essiam was suspended on Tuesday, May 8 by a unanimous decision of the board of the GCMC after a crunch meeting.
