Engage private sector in oil & gas production – Kuenyehia

Mr Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, an entrepreneurship lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), has challenged the Government to engage the services of the nation’s private sector in the oil and gas production business.

This according to him would not only help create jobs for some locals but also enhance the private sector to grow to support the growth of the economy.

Mr Kuenyehia made this call when he answered questions at the ongoing “entrepreneurship clinic” at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) recently.

The six-week clinic organized by the Centre for Business Development (CBD) and the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS), all of KNUST, is scheduled to end on March 8th.

It seeks to educate the students with the general knowledge in all aspects of the entrepreneurship and small business management and also throw more light on professional and business ethics.

Mr Kuenyehia said since the private sector played crucial role in the development of the nation, it was necessary for it to be given the needed boast to create the environment for a smooth take-off and support job creation and economic empowerment of the people.

He spoke against the over concentration by students on their books and areas of study, which he said, was very bad since it restricted them to only one aspect of life.

The lecturer called for social networking by the students since that could offer them the platform to establish their own jobs after school.

Mr Kuenyehia, who is also a lawyer, added his voice to the call for entrepreneurship to be made a compulsory course of study at all tertiary institutions to equip the students with the needed skills to enable them create jobs.

Mr Dauda Mohammed, Ashanti Regional Manager of Beige Capital Limited, said because of the importance of entrepreneurship there was the need to create the environment that supports job creation and business development.

He commended the CBD for the initiative to educate all final year students of the university to learn something about entrepreneurship, which in the long run equip them with the needed skills to be self-employed.

Madam Adelaide Ahwireng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the FIO Enterprises Limited said the “Bank of Ghana must make it a point as a regulatory body to create conditions, which are very conducive, especially by making funds available in sustaining businesses,” she stated.

She spoke on the topic: “Managing and Sustaining Businesses in Ghana”.

The CEO of HFC Bank, Mr Asare Akuffo, who spoke on “Financing a Business in Ghana”, advised participants to open bank accounts and do proper records keeping of their businesses.
