Fingers Behind Ghana’s Crude Oil

  • SOURCE: The Crusading Guide | qwesa2big
  • It’s been eleven years since Crude oil was discovered in commercial quantities in Ghana. Since the year 2007 when crude oil was discovered several multinational and local companies have signed contracts with the government of Ghana to acquire and develop oil blocks offshore to produce.

The issue of shareholders and owners of oil companies has been a matter of concern to Ghanaians as they want to know the actual or real owners of companies operating in the upstream sector of Ghana’s oil industry.

This investigating reporter has intercepted a document containing the names of almost all the directors, and shareholders of the of the oil blocks in Ghana as at December 2014 and their shares in these blocks.

The names include politicians and business men and former ministers of state . A source at the petroleum commission has confirmed these name.

Speaking to this in interview, Mr. Benjamin Boakye , head of the African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) said he does not doubt the lists since it is similar to what he received from the Registrar Generals Department.

‘’The point is that some of these names could be fronting for some big names . We know that some former presidents of Ghana have oil blocks but their names cannot found in the list you have . This means that somebody is still representing them’’

What is likely to happen is that, very soon the people fronting for these owners will start claiming ownership and that is where we will begin to know the actual faces behind these oil blocks?

When this reporter submitted the document to the Deputy Minister of Energy, Mohammed Amin Adams , he slated in an interview that ‘’ The Petroleum Commission and the Registrar General keep the information on owners of companies and I have no basis to doubt a list issued by them.

As you know the companies code is yet to be amended to allow for the disclosure of sure information

Dr. Steve Manteaw , Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) in an interview stated that PIAC has copy of the Document and is also studying it.

The list has however been submitted to the Chief Executive of the Petroleum Commission and we yet to get his reaction.

Meanwhile , The Public Relation Manager of the JOSPONG Group of companies , Robert Coleman in an interview regarding the shares of his boss, Joseph Siaw Agyepong in MED in the south Deep Water Tano Block, indicated that

‘’My boss is a businessman he is not a politician and nothing stops him from doing business wherever he wants’’.

Meanwhile Nana Ato Dadzi has confirmed that is a tussle between him and one Chris Wilmot over his 30% shares in Amni Development. Managers of the Central Tano Block. He says Christ Wilmot is using his company called WCW to illegally snatch his 30% shares in Amni International Development Company from him and he is speaking with his lawyers to consider a legal dress. This reporter made effort to contact the management of WCW international to get their reaction regarding the issue. Initially they requested for a questionnaire which was sent to them and it’s been over six months now and the questionnaire has not been answered. We are still pursuing to get the side of the issue.
