After a series of inconsistencies in predictions with regards to completion dates of the gas project, the Communications Manager of Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) Mr. Alfred Ogbaame has finally and fully assured Ghanaians of free flow of gas by the end of this year, December 2014.
The GNGC was established in 2011 to develop the infrastructure needed to use gas freely flowing from the Jubilee oil fields in the Western Region. Some of the products to be anticipated from the Ghana Gas outfit are lean gas, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPGs), Pentanes and condensates.
The Western Corridor Gas Infrastructure Project is expected to support the supply of fertilizers (ammonia and urea), and begin industrialization in the salt, alumina, petro-chemicals such as plastics, methanol.
‘’Ghanaians will get access to gas by the end of this year’’, he assured.
In an interview with the media on Monday, the Communications Manager disclosed that the undue delays that have inhibited the supply of gas were due to financial constraints.
‘’Funding has not been available for us (Ghana Gas) to complete the project. We had to go for CDB loan to fund the project. The undue delay of the loan has also caused a rippling effect in funding the project’’, he said.
In a related development, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, Member of Parliament for the Pru East Constituency and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy described delays in the gas production as ‘’mentally retarding’’ but his statement was debunked by the Communication Manager.
Quizzed whether it dawned on them (Ghana gas) to render an apology for failing Ghanaians about the predictions, Mr. Ogbaame stated ‘’it was left to the Board and Management of the Company’’.

In respect to the total amount of money pumped in the project, he did not have the total figures at hand and said the entire cost involved documents covering the cost which have been submitted to Public Interest and accountability Committee (PIaC) which would be released later this year.
