Ghana Gas denies signing BOT natural gas transmission pipeline agreement

  • SOURCE: | qwesa2big
  • The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) says it has not signed a Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement for natural gas transmission pipeline as reported.
According the company, it only renewed a Project Implementation Agreement which was first signed on September 7, 2016.

The initial agreement lasted for six months and was renewed on April 11, 2017, for another six months period, George Amoako- Adjei, Director of Commercial Operations, said in a statement issued on behalf of the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The statement explained that with approval from the Ministry of Energy, Ghana Gas renewed the agreement with Chiense Multinational conglomerate, Yantai Jereh Oilfield Services Group Company.
It said the agreement is for engineering and survey studies on the proposed 278 kilometres gas transmission pipeline from Aboadze to Tema.
It noted that the agreement only mandates Jantai Jereh to complete the Front End Engineering and topographical/geotechnical site surveys for the proposed onshore natural gas transmission line.
The statement explained that during the six months period that the agreement is valid, certain preliminary activities would be undertaken by Yantai Jereh with prior approval of Ghana Gas and that includes the engagement of a contractor to perform the FEED.
It explained that the proposed PIA serves as a prelude for the negotiation of a BOT agreement which and all costs of implementation of the FEED shall be approved by Ghana Gas
