The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has ramped up its daily supply of lean gas to the Aboadze enclave of the Volta River Authority (VRA) from 54 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) to 100 mmscf.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr George Sipa Yankey, who made this known, said engineers on the company’s processing plant at Atuabo were working around the clock to increase its capacity in the coming weeks.
He was speaking with a delegation of chiefs from the Ellembele District in the Western Region at the headquarters of Ghana Gas in Accra last Tuesday.
The delegation, which comprised the Standing Committee of the Eastern and Western Nzema Traditional areas, was led by Nana Adu Kwao II, chief of Nzema Akropong.
Dr. Yankey said the Jubilee Partners, led by Tullow, had assured Ghana Gas of increased volumes of gas from the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah and expressed optimism that the current power situation might improve tremendously if the situation stabilised in the coming days.
Ghana Gas resumed supply of lean gas to the VRA on Saturday, August 1, following the successful repair of the faulty compressor on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah at the Jubilee Fields, which broke down on July 3, this year resulting in the shutdown of gas export to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. It has also recommenced the production of condensate and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The faulty compressor on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah also led to reduction in oil production at the Jubilee Fields, dropping from 110,000 barrels per day to 65,000 barrels.
Dr Yankey expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Ellembele for their co-operation and understanding in the execution of the entire gas processing project. He said among its corporate social responsibility the company had embarked on a number of projects for the people in the area, among which were the construction of teachers’ quarters and scholarships for a number of students to study in tertiary institutions.
The leader of the delegation, Nana Adu Kwao, on behalf of the chiefs and people, expressed the hope that more development projects would be undertaken in the area with the takeoff of the project.
He called on Ghana Gas to increase its scholarship scheme in the area to enable more students to benefit from it.
Other members of the delegation were Nana Nyamekeh Fofole II, chief of Ampain, Nana Awubeh II, queenmother of Edwakpoley and Nana Kofi Amihere III, chief of Eikwe.
The rest were Nana Ebleamgbane II, queenmother of Ainyinasi, Nana Afful Kwaw II, chief of Teleku-Bokazo and Nana Addo Nredah V, chief of Azulenloau
