Ghana gas installs first major equipment at Atuabo Gas Processing plant

  • The Ghana National Gas Company has installed the first major equipment at the Gas Processing Plant site at Atuabo in the western region.

    The 42 metric tonne De-Butaniser which is the component of the project model will produce Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) once the whole plant is completed by the end of the fourth quarter of this year.

    Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr George Sipa Yankey in an interview with Citi Business News said the installation of the new equipment means the project is nearing its final stages of completion.

    “We are still looking up to the end of the fourth quarter of this year ; all things being equal, financial problems being solved, it solved be very easy for the project to on as scheduled.”

    He mentioned that the company “is however in the process of lifting the de-ethaniser (component to circulate the lean gas) which will later be transported to the Volta River Authority plant at Aboadze; it separate the gas from the other liquids.”

    Currently, the total natural gas deposit offshore Ghana is more than 5-trillion standard cubic feet and the first phase of the plant has been designed to process 150 million standard cubic feet, the second phase in 2016/2017 is expected to increase production to 300 million cubic feet a day.
