Ghana Gas spends GH8.1 million to compensate farmers

  • gh gasGHANA National Gas Company has so far paid a total of GH48,134,747.80 as compensation to 2,361 farmers along the iii km right of way of the western corridor gas infrastructure development project.

    This came to light when the company presented cheques to 39 rubber farmers to cover the cost of rubber plantations cleared to pave way for the construction of the project from Atuabo to Aboadze.

    Eighty additional farmers, whose crop enumeration forms (Form F) are currently being processed, are also expected to receive their cheques in the coming days to mark the final payment of crop compensations”.

    The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Dr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey who made the presentation expressed satisfaction at the progress made to settle affected farmers. “We are proud of this achievement; it is in line with our commitment to fully compensate achievement; it is in all persons whose crops or structures have been destroyed to pave way for the development of the gas project,” he added.

    On his part, Mr Peter Osabutey, a rubber farmer from Axim who was compensated expressed profound gratitude to Ghana Gas for honouring its word.

    He urged his fellow farmers to invest the funds wisely and to continue to support projects that will bring development to their communities.

    All compensation claims were authenticated through an enumeration and valuation process carried out by the Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission prior to payment.

    Affected crops for which farmers were compensated included rubber plantations, cassava, plantain, coconut and oil palm.
