    DIALOGUE
    TOP STORIES IN THE MONTH OF MAY
    In the month of MAY, civil society organisations in Ghana held a dialogue on anti-corruption in the extractive Sector. The dialogue was to serve as a prelude for the UK Anti-Corruption Summit held in London. The event aimed at pushing the Government of Ghana to declare its commitment to fight corruption in Ghana and in the extractive sector in particular.
    Other highlights in Ghana’s extractive sector includes:

    Personality of the Month – Kojo Agbenor Efunam
    Mr. Kojo Agbenor-Efunam is the head of oil and gas department of the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) Ghana.
    He holds a BSc (Hon) Degree in Geological Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana and MSc Degree in Petroleum Geosciences from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.
    He has worked at the Environmental Protection Agency for the past twelve years in various position including Environmental Inspector, Geo-information Management Specialist & IT Trainer, and the Desk Officer for the Ghana National Oil Spill Contingency Plan.
    He is currently the International Maritime organisation focal person for Ghana under the Global Initiative for West, Central and Southern Africa (GI WACAF Project ).

    Institution of the Month – Environmental Protection Agency
    The Environmental Protection Agency is a public body for protecting and improving the environment in Ghana.
    It was established under Act, 1994 (Act 490) and it is made up of 12 board members, 4 executive team and 17 management team that is dedicated to continuously improving and conserving the country’s environment in which all sections of the community value the environment, strive to attain sustainable development, effective and efficient resource management based on good environmental governance, taking into account social land equity issues.
    The agency have a petroleum department which was set up to meet challenges of the oil and gas sector. It functions are in structures which includes up and downstream unit, emergency unit, data management unit, incident report receipt and recording.
    The mission of the EPA is to co-manage, protect and enhance the country’s environment, in particular, as well as seek common solutions to global environmental problems.
