  • Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) on Monday resumed operations after halt in its operations since last year.

Work at the refinery broke down in July last year due to financial and operational challenges.

Management of the refinery last year proposed a plant stabilization plan at a cost of $67.7 million of which government in December last year released 30 million.

Its takeoff on Monday will see TOR refine about 30,000 barrels of crude oil a day.

The Managing Director of TOR, Ato Ampiah explained to Citi Business News that throughout this week, the refinery will be warmed up and by the weekend it will take off fully.

“After very hard work, I am told many Ghanaians are saying our people were not working. But when the plant was down, the type of maintenance was very risky. People have put their lives at stake high up on the plant. We have done shift system to get these plants working.”

According to him, the workers of TOR “are not sitting by, they have done numerous works and I congratulate them for the work they have done. They did it without external support. There was no white man here to do it. Ghanaians have proven that they can do the work and they are capable and today as I speak the inspection department has inspected the plant and we will hand it over to production and it will be on call to production. Today we hand it on to production.”
