Ghana’s vice president leaves for oil trade forum in Czech

  • Ghanaian Vice president John Dramani Mahama left here Monday evening to attend the Ghana-Czech oil trade forum in the Czech Republic.

The week-long forum would explore investment opportunities in Ghana’s oil and gas sector and discuss the opportunities in the agricultural and agro-processing sector.

Hundreds of delegates made up of government officials, policy makers, corporate executives and potential investors from both countries are expected to attend the forum.

In an interview with Xinhua, John Jinapor, spokesman for the vice president, said the forum would afford Ghana the opportunity to tap into the Czech expertise in oil and gas and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Ghana’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Victor Smith, said Ghana was to benefit from the expertise in the construction sector as the European country was recognized as expert in infrastructural development, including road, rail and bridges.

He said investments in the road sector were very necessary in the development of Ghana’s oil and gas.

Ghana is endowed with numerous natural resources including cocoa, timber, gold and diamond. The West African country recently discovered crude oil in commercial quantities along its west coast. Exploration is due to start in December.
