Ghana football fans celebrate Asomoah GyGhana National Petroleum Corporation, the headline sponsor of the senior national team the Black Stars, has unveiled four fan-zones that will be showing World Cup games across the country.

Although the centre at Black Star square in Accra will be the biggest in terms of space and screen size, the one on the Oxford Street at Osu and that of the Jubilee Parks in Kumasi and Takoradi are expected to be equally exciting and bustling with fun.

Mr. Alex Mould, the CEO of the GNPC revealed: “From the very onset, we knew not everybody could go to Brazil. Therefore, GNPC decided to support the dream-team to get there and hoist the Ghana flag high. But how do we link with our heroes while at the games? Thankfully, the idea of creating these fan zones came to mind. The screens are huge enough to get us into the games, and the feeling of being on one stage with the stars is presented to Ghanaians”.

Ghana plays the USA on June 16, after which will be two more games — against Germany, followed by the last group game with Portugal. It is assured that the viewing centres will be available to fans at all times during World Cup games. “Last year, our theme was ‘fuelling the passion of the nation’; however, this time ’empowering dreams’ is the path we are taking. These are all in tandem with our corporate values and mission, and very soon we will be unfolding our community involvement projects and some individual lives we have touched over the period. I must say– we have a very direct theme presently, and the corporation is keen on working toward this,” Mr. Mould explained.

The GNPC has been the headline sponsor of the Black Stars since January 2013. Within these years, they have been able to empower the senior national team to one African Cup and one World Cup. The corporation also used the platform to unveil their souvenir taxis, which will be sharing out souvenirs like vuvuzelas, t-shirts, clappers and a lot more — mainly during Ghana matches.
