  • The GNPC Foundation has kick-started community engagements in the Western Region as part of its preparatory activities for the provision of potable drinking water to deprived communities across the country.

For 2018 only, the Foundation has earmarked some 20 deprived communities in the Western Region to benefit from the provision of boreholes.

This is expected to alleviate the water and sanitation challenges in rural Ghana.

The Projects Manager at GNPC Foundation, Patience Lartey, said the community entry activities have been necessitated by the need to ascertain the veracity of the conditions of the selected communities, their water needs and to also introduce the project’s contractor among other details to the community leaders.

The intervention, which is one of many within the Foundation’s mandate in Environment and Social Amenities, will also see to the provision of 80 other boreholes in three northern regions and other parts of the country.

The Environment and Social Amenities team has so far completed engagements with some 20 communities spanning 15 districts in the Western Region.

These communities include Abuesi and Amenano in the Shama district, Limankrom in the Enchi Aowin district, Old Ankasa in the Jomoro district, Ellobankata in the Ahanta West District and Sayereso in the Juabeso District.
