GNPC, Mitsui sign MoU for gas processing

  • b0a551305b862bce9179b90ec5903b47_LThe Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mitsui and Co. Limited for the processing of raw natural gas from the Tano and other river basins in Ghana.

    Mitsui and Co. Limited will become a facilitator and advisor on the development of the infrastructure and sending the gas to the market centres.

    The acting Chief Executive of GNPC, Mr Alexander Mould, signed for the corporation while the General Manager of Mitsui, Mr Seung Yup Yu, initialled for his company.

    A press statement signed by the Head of Communications of the Ministry of Petroleum, Mr Edward Abambire Bawa, stated that Mitsui, together with its engineering affiliates, will assist GNPC to carry out all the studies required for developments.

    This includes a second processing plant, which will process natural gas from especially the Western or Tano Basin.

    According to the statement, Mitsui’s work will be at no cost to the GNPC or the state.

    Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Petroleum, Mr Benjamin Dagadu, recalled a presentation that was made by Mitsui for the possibility of a second gas processing plant and the ministry’s consequent directive to the GNPC to engage Mitsui on their proposal.

    He stated that the pre-tender feasibility studies that Mitsui had been commissioned to conduct was at no cost to both the GNPC and the state.

    He advised the GNPC and Mitsui to co-operate with each other to ensure that the current relationship developed into a bigger partnership.
