  • The Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) and a philanthropic couple based in the United States of America (USA), Wayne and Claire Heyland, have presented a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine worth $1.6million to the FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital.

The MRI, which is the latest addition to a state-of the-art CT scanner and other X-Ray machines, will enhance the capacity of the 70-bed hospital to diagnose and treat various musculoskeletal conditions.

At a short ceremony to officially outdoor the ultramodern MRI machine at the hospital premises in Accra last Monday, chief executive officer (CEO), Founder and President of FOCUS, Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, expressed gratitude to the GNPC, Wayne and Claire Heyland, the board of FOCOS and staff members for the realisation of the dream of accessing and addressing special health conditions.

“We are grateful to the GNPC and the Heylands for coming together to help FOCOS acquire an MRI machine to provide the highest quality orthopaedic care to the under-served in our society,” he said.

The CEO of the GNPC, Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong also stated that GNPC was happy to be associated with the FOCOS brand and the success story of impacting lives through the provision of quality health care at affordable cost.

“We are proud to be part of the success story at FOCOS, and to make essential healthcare services available to patients who are in need,” he said.

Professor Boachie-Adjei called on various organisations to support the project by financing more of such facilities to ensure the administration of quality health care services.

“This campaign and GNPC initiative is a perfect example of how, through working together in a Private-Public Partnerships, we can make a difference for the sustainability of an institution like FOCOS,” he said.

He pledged to ensure that the MRI facility is put to good use to ensure that people with peculiar orthopaedic disorders reap the benefits.

Some patients who benefitted from GNPC-sponsored healthcare expressed appreciation to the national oil company and FOCOS for providing free health care.
