Golden Star Wassa Limited (GSWL) has won the National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety competitions organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines for the third consecutive year.
The company was lauded for their high safety standards as they picked the award on Friday 11 March, 2016.
The company received a trophy for keeps and a citation for the unprecedented three-time win in a row in the history of the competition.
Twelve mining companies participated and were initially divided into three zones, with each zone comprising four mines.
Winners in each zone plus the host company then qualified for the national competition, the winner of which becomes the national champion.
It is through this process that GSWL emerged champions. Aside from this award, the GSWL was adjudged The Best Mine in Ghana in terms of safety at the maiden edition of the Ghana Mining Industry Awards held in December last year.
The mine also received praise from St. John’s Ambulance Ghana, a partner of the Ghana Chamber of Mines in the training of health and safety officers.
The CEO of St. John’s Ambulance, Mr Kwame Apedzi, commended GSWL on its level of knowledge and capacity in safety and first aid.
