Govt starts infrastructure devt for Gas Master Plan

  • The Ministry of Energy has announced that government is developing the infrastructure to enable reverse gas flow from Takoradi in the Western region to Tema in the Greater Accra region.

    The project, which is part of the Gas Master Plan is expected to supply adequate gas to generate electricity in the Tema power Enclave.

    The enclave which is a hub to many Independent Power Producers have complained of inadequate gas supply from WAGPCo.

    Speaking at the inauguration of the Committee for the Implementation of the Gas Master Plan, Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko tasked the committee to make review of the plan where necessary.

    “We are developing the necessary infrastructure for evacuation of gas from the west to the east—this includes a reverse flow project in the WAGP,” he said

    “The Master Plan is only a working document and will require periodic update and revision. It is the duty of this committee to ensure that both the plans and enabling drivers, along the entire value chain are implemented effectively and revised periodically, for the development and sustainability of Ghana’s Gas Industry,” he directed.

    On policy issues for gas development, Mr. Agyarko stated that government intends to use part of the indigenous natural gas to develop a petrochemical industry and agrochemicals.

    “We will introduce a new LPG circulation policy that requires safe and efficient delivery of LPG to homes and industry,” he assured.

    The committee will be chaired by the Deputy Minister for Petroleum. The Members include CEO of GNPC, Dr. K.K Sarpong, CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Theophilous Ahwireng, CEO of the NPA, Alhassan Tampuli, CEO of the Ghana Gas Company, Dr. Ben Asante , CEO of BOST Alfred Obeng, and  CEO of TOR, Isaac Osei.

    The rest are Director  of of Petroleum ,Ministry of Energy, and Deputy Legal Director at the Energy Ministry, Anita Lokko.
