IAIA Calls for Environmental Governance Council

  • The International Association for Impact Assessment Ghana (IAIA-Ghana) on Friday 11th January, called for the establishment of an Environmental Governance Council at its end of year staff dinner and handing over ceremony event held at the Holiday Inn.

    Present at the event were members of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Media Coalition against Galamsey and other civil society organizations. In his key note address, the immediate past president of the IAIA-Ghana,

    Mr Yaw Amoyaw-Osei, commended the government in its steps towards setting up a fiscal council and recommended that the same steps be taken towards establishing an environmental council which would advice the presidency on matters regarding environmental impact and safety.

    He also lauded the Media Coalition against Galamsey for their outstanding works and contribution towards preserving the environment, particularly the water bodies against the menace of galamsey operations. The Coalition was awarded a plaque in respect to this.

    A handing over ceremony which saw to the induction of new officials for the year to carry out the mandate of the IAIA. Members of the IAIA took the opportunity to deliberate strategic plans ahead of the exciting year and also observed a moments silence for the faithful departed staff. The night was highlighted with a pleasant dinner great music.
