Iran, Ghana Sign MoUs to Boost Energy, Mining Cooperation

  • Iran and Ghana signed several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on constructing dams and setting up pharmaceutical companies.

    The MoUs were signed in a meeting between Iranian Minister of Labor Ali Rabiee and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in Tehran on Sunday.

    Rabeiee said Iran has already had economic relations with six African countries, and that Iran can share its experiences in vocational education to Ghana.

    Veep Dr. Bawumia, for his part, said that Iran can share its technical knowledge in different fields with Ghana, including housing, cement production, processing cocoa, oil, gas, and medicine production, adding that economic cooperation with Iran is a win-win situation.

    The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was on an official visit to the Iran, for the inauguration of Dr Hassan Rouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

    He was accompanied by a number of Ministers and government officials including the Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid, Minister for Business Development, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Minister for Zongo Development, Boniface Abubakar Siddique and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Habib Tijani.

    In another development, earlier this year, Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Mojtaba Khosrotaj said that a large part of Iranian export contains Ghana’s needs and can be included in the Iranian export to Ghana.

    Among them are tires, cement, ceramics and tiles, polymer products, medicine, agricultural produce like tomatoes, agricultural machinery like tractors, steel products, piles, motorcycles and spare parts, butane liquefied gas, and plastic products.

    According to a TPO official, the Iran-Ghana Joint Economic Cooperation Commission meeting will be held in Ghana in two months.
