Karpower: We’re unaffected by Turkey uprising

  • SOURCE: | qwesa2big
  • karpowerTurkey-based Karpower Limited has said the recent attempt to overthrow Turkey’s government will not affect the supply of power to Ghana or any other operations of the company in Accra.

Some officers in the Turkish armed forces tried to seize power but failed. Thousands of army officers, police officers, judges, teachers and civil servants have been purged by the government after the failed putsch. The government of Turkey has begun a process to prosecute all of them. It is even considering re-introducing the death penalty, to permanently eliminate the suspected coup makers.

The attempted coup sparked fears back home in Ghana that a power purchase agreement between the two countries could be jeopardised.

However, Karpower has said its operations in Ghana will not be affected in any way. It has also given the assurance that an additional power barge, expected in the country by September this year to add an additional 450MW of power, will be delivered on schedule.

“All our international and local personnel are safe and all our operations inside and outside of Turkey and construction works in our shipyards continue without any interruptions or delays. Thus the 450MW Powership expected in Ghana this year will be delivered as planned.”
