The relocation, which is expected take place by the second quarter of the year, forms part of government’s plans to enable the floating power generating plant to get easy access to cheaper and reliable fuel source.

Sandra Amarquaye, Corporate Communications Specialist of Karpowership Ghana, said the power company had held a series of stakeholder meetings with various community groups in the Sekondi/Takoradi municipality.

Giving the aim of the engagement, she stated that the sessions were to sensitize stakeholders in the areas of operations of Karpowership and its contribution to communities – which was in line with Karpowership’s principle of having a transparent, trustworthy and sustainable relationship with its stakeholders.

Ms Sandra Amarquaye reiterated that Karpowership is committed to Ghana’s development and would continue to provide all Ghanaians reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity.

Karpowership Ghana interacted with bodies such as the Sekondi and Essikado Traditional Councils, the Inshore Fishing Association, the Fish Traders and Processors’ Association, fishmongers and the media.

In his reaction, the Acting President of the Sekondi House of Chiefs, Nana Kwesi Badu II, extolled Karpowership for the steps it is taking to sustain power supply in the country.

“Karpowership’s efforts at contributing to sustainable power supply in the country are well appreciated. In fact, Karpowership has done well by coming to our home to tell us about the Powership.

“We will tell the members of the community about the Powership, and hope that you will keep us informed about all you do,” he expressed.

Francis Eshuw, Chairman of the Inshore Fishing Association, expressed the association’s excitement about the benefits of the Powership.

Since its operation, the company has undertaken some major projects as part of its corporate social responsibilities, including providing a bursary for brilliant but needy students and adopting and fully furnishing an ultra-modern computer laboratory.
