Lack of personnel hampering our work-Minerals Commission

  • According to the Commission, about 50 percent of its skilled workers heading various divisions and departments are due for retirement— failure to get replacement will have negative impact on its operations.

    The Chief Executive of the Commission, Kwaku Addae Antwi-Boasiako made this known when Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asoma Cheremeh interacted with staff of the commission.

    The Minerals Commission is a government institution which regulates and manages the mineral resources of the country.

    Although it generate funds, the commission needs clearance from the Finance Ministry to employ personnel for its operations.

    Briefing Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asoma Cheremeh on the state of the commission, Chief Executive, Antwi-Boasiako said inadequate personnel is one of the major challenges affecting the commission.

    He later told Citi Business News that getting the people with the expertise for its field works is a challenge.

    “What we are looking for is the right expertise because by next year half of the top people will be retired. We need people with the right technical training and experience and how to get them is a bit tough.”

    The Commission is also seeking to hire mining guards to complement the work of the military in the fight against illegal mining.

    After his tour and interaction with staff of the commission, Lands and Natural Resources Minister. Mr. Asoma Cheremeh assured the commission that he will consult the Finance Ministry to solve the problem.

    “I am going to have a discussion with the Finance Ministry to have them treat this issue as a special case to ensure that the commission is well resourced.”

    He lauded staff and management of the commission and admonished them to avoid corrupt practices and work efficiently for the growth of the mining industry.
