The leaders of General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU)of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana is asking government to put in measures to ensure that Ghanaian employees enjoy equal conditions of service including remuneration, dispute resolution among others as compared to their foreign counterpart.

In a resolution adopted at the end of the GTPCWU forum on: “Local content and service conditions in the oil and gas sector,” it says the Petroleum Commission should enforced and properly supervise the sector, audit and publish the reports from the oil and gas companies.

It recommended the need to empower local employees in the industry through training and retraining to facilitate the complete localization of the industry in the shortest possible time.

The resolution also called for the need to build the capacity of government agencies and departments with oversight responsibility for effective supervision of the industry players whilst ensuring that GTPCWU is represented at the highest decision level in the oil and gas sector.

The resolution says Bulk Oil Storage Transportation (BOST) which has the sole mandate and have been issued a license by the Petroleum Commission as the Natural Gas Transmission utility be allowed to fulfill its mandate while Ghana Gas concentrate on gas processing.

Again, attention should be given to the Tema Oil Refinery in order to prevent it total collapse- – steps should be taken to resolve all pending issues with MODEC and respect the memorandum of understanding between employees of Jack Ryan and their employers as soon as possible to avert further escalation.
