  • The Ministry of Energy says plans are being put in place to ensure that indigenous benefit from the country’s oil and gas find.

The Ministry is also equipping the Takoradi Polytechnic with the necessary tools to train students for the required services and skills for the sector.

The Research and Communications’ Director at the Ministry, Edward Bawa announced this on GTV’s Programme "Talking Point".

He said the Ministry will not be complacent in ensuring the oil find becomes a blessing rather than a curse.

Mr. Bawa said the Ministry will avoid the situation where other sectors of the economy will be neglected because of the oil find.

The Communications Officer of Tullow Oil, Gayheart Mensah was worried about the over concentration on oil exploration to gas, which is equally important.

He said gas exploration will immensely feed the increasing of LPG users across the country.

On his part, the Vice Chairman for the Civil Society Platform for Oil and Gas, Kwame Jantuah, indicated that inappropriate infrastructure may cripple Ghana’s exploration of gas.

He said the country does not have the requisite structures in place to ensure the success of the venture.

Mr. Jantuah was concerned about the lack of human resources to aid in managing the discovery.

He was of the view that the artisans and fishermen who are abreast of the geological make up of the field should be given the requisite training to enable them to detect any oil spillage.
