Newmont is world’s 2nd biggest gold producer

  • 1.8838576New York Stock Exchange-listed miner Newmont Mining Corporation is the world’s second biggest gold miner, according to Company Data.


    Newmont, which operates in Ghana, produced an estimated five million ounces of gold in 2015, a 4.2% rise in its 2014 production of 4.8 million ounces.

    It followed Barrick Gold’s 6.12 million ounces produced in 2015, a 5.8% fall in the world’s biggest gold miner’s 6.5 million ounces produced in 2014.

    AngloGold Ashanti came in third with 3.95 million ounces in 2015, a 10.2% fall in its 4.4 million ounces in 2014.

    Goldcorp is fourth with 3.46 million ounces, a 20.6% jump in its 2.87 million ounces in 2014. Following Goldcorp is Kinross Gold with 2.59 million ounces, a 4.4% fall in its 2.71 million ounces of 2014.

    Newcrest Mining came in sixth with 2.49 million ounces, a 6.9% jump in 2014’s 2.33 million ounces, while Gold Fields followed as the seventh biggest gold producer in the world with 2.16 million ounces, a 2.7% fall in 2014’s 2.22 million ounces.

    Following Gold Fields is Polyus Gold with 1.74 million ounces, a 2.4% jump from 2014’s 1.7 million ounces.

    Agnico Eagle Mines came in ninth with 1.67 million ounces, a 16.8% jump from 2014’s 1.43 million ounces, with Sibanye Gold taking the tenth spot with 1.54 million ounces, a 3.1% fall in 2014’s 1.59 million ounces.
