  • Welcome to day 2 of November. In today’s headline news, we captured the following stories.

The Classfmonline portal in the capital reported “Court throws out IFC application against Quantum Oil terminals” According to the news portal, The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application for stay of proceedings by International Finance Corporation (IFC) seeking to halt an ongoing case with Quantum Oil Terminals Limited at the High Court over damages as a result of breach of an agreement.  The three justices of the Court of Appeal, namely Justice PK Gyaesayor, Justice Agnes Dordzie and Justice Issifu Tanko Amadu, in their short ruling said they found no reason why they should stay proceedings at the High Court looking at the argument before them.

Also, the Accra-based Citifmonline disclosed “Petition parliament on tax extension period—GRA to OMCs”. It further explained that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has directed Oil Marketing Companies (OMC’s) to petition parliament for an extension in payment of their taxes which is within 21 days. The OMCs made an appeal for the days to be reviewed. But responding to the appeal, the GRA, stated that  the days can only be revised should it be amended by parliament. “We are guided by laws and by regulations. They are to meet their tax obligations within twenty-one days. So unless it goes through parliament for that section to be amended, we will still hold the twenty-one days”, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Accra Collection at the GRA, Mr. George Atta Kruffie said.
