NLC directs GTPCWU to negotiate exit package for sacked MODEC workers

  • SOURCE: | qwesa2big
  • Citi Business News has gathered that the National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) to commence negotiating severance packages for the 19 sacked Ghanaian MODEC workers on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

The NLC gave the directive after MODEC refused to reinstate the workers despite an MOU signed between them and the union in November, 2014 to reinstate 15 of the 19 sacked workers.Citi Business News sources say the directive for the union to negotiate the workers exit package was given at a meeting at the NLC last week where the commission informed the union that it cannot force MODEC to reinstate the workers.

Sources familiar with the matter tell Citi Business News the directive did not go down well with the union who have referred the case to their lawyers for advice.

Last week the union accused Tullow Ghana of coercing MODEC against reinstating the workers. According to the union the offshore installation manager of the FPSO who is an employee of Tullow Ghana has blatantly refused to admit the workers onto FPSO.
