NRGI set to launch 2017 Resource Governance Index globally using digital tools.

  • The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), will today, launch its 2017 governance report on resources Governance at 1pm at Alisa Hotel in Accra. The Resource Governance Index (RGI) is an annual report by the Institute which seeks to measure the quality of governance in the oil, gas and mining sectors of 81 resource-producing countries including 28 in sub-Sahara Africa.

    Over the years, NRGI’s index on resource governance has scored and ranked countries relying on a detailed questionnaire completed by researchers with expertise in the extractive industries. It also includes information on special mechanisms used commonly to govern oil, gas and minerals state owned companies, natural resource funds and sub-nationals revenue transfers.

    The 2017 Resource Governance Index will provide detailed, country-specific comparative information that can serve as a guide for reforms by assessing the quality of key governance components including value Realization, Revenue Management and Enabling environment.

    The global launch of the report will be held simultaneously in London with key sector players and experts with the likes of Professors Ernesto Zedillo a former president of Mexico, Daniel Kaufmann, President of Natural Resource Governance Institute and Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, deputy minister of Energy, Ghana and Honorable John Peter Amewu, Minster of Lands and Natural resources

    The Resource Governance Index is the only International index dedicated to measure the quality of governance of extractive resource across the Globe. Other activities to run on the day include, a Panel discussion on the Index report as well as an open forum.
