Oil and Gas Year Book launched

  • ghana gas logoDr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana National Gas Company (GhanaGas) has been adjudged as Ghana’s Oil and Gas industry’s “Man of the Year”.

    He has subsequently dedicated the award to the late Professor Evans Atta Mills, whose vision gave birth to GhanaGas, and then to President John Dramani Mahama for committing himself towards the successful completion of the gas project.

    At the launch of The Oil and Gas Year (TOGY) Book and awards ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, other entities and projects like the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Learning Foundation was awarded the “Education Initiative of the Year, while the Enterprise Development Centre at Takoradi in the Western Region, was adjudged the Local Content Initiative of the year.

    The 790 million dollar Bui Hydroelectric Power Plant was awarded the Power Project of the Year, the West African Gas Pipeline Company was awarded the Engineering Project of the Year, whilst the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme (TEN) Fields was adjudged the new development of the Year.

    TOGY Book, published by Wildcat International, is a series of books, gathering interviews with the key stakeholders of the energy industry, country by country. The Ministry of Energy, GNPC and Stratcomm Africa are collaborating with Wildcat in publishing the book.

    TOGY features in-depth articles, analyses and resources to present a clear picture of the global oil and gas industry and its associated sectors, from banking and finance to transportation, and refining to retail.

    Mr James Chester Regional Director of TOGYs said Ghana had taken bold steps in developing her oil sector infrastructure coupled with various initiatives and legislation, which was commendable.

    He said the book entailed general narrative of how Ghana was developing her oil and Gas industry after jubilee.

    The award was also to reward outstanding initiatives and personalities in helping develop the oil and gas sector.

    Dr Yankey said “I consider this award an important one considering the potential of the oil and gas industry being critical pillar of our economy. Any effort, therefore, at highlighting the determination and hard work of the current leadership within the industry, as we take the giant steps towards the full monetisation of our of our hydrocarbon resources, deserves commendation”.

    Mr Benjamin Dagadu, Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, said the Oil and Gas book was proving to be a reliable source of information to help the petroleum industry with its exclusive series of  yearly reports, which serve as annual guides to more than 30 oil-rich nations.

    He said Government was committed to the agreement governing the oil and gas sector and so assured the many international companies that have invested in the industry to feel at ease but must abide by policy guidelines.

    Mr Theophilus Ahwireng, Geophysicist Manager of GNPC, on behalf of the GNPC’s CEO, Mr Alex Mould said the second edition of Oil and Gas Year, Ghana presents another opportunity to spread further the message about “The Ghana opportunity” to attract the investment required to optimise the development of the country’s petroleum resources.

    He mentioned topics covered by the book as energy policy and regulation, jubilee field, TEN Field complex, major projects coming up, infrastructure development and the local content agenda.

    The Oil & Gas Year is a flagship yearly book introduced into the country two years ago and it features exclusive interviews and original analysis as well as a roundup of global hydrocarbons industry news.

    The book is a series of executive reports produced on more than 30 countries and territories. It is both valuable and a critical business tools for energy investors, highlighting and promoting key actors and opportunities.
