Oil swerves Jubilee partners at Teak-4A well offshore Ghana

  • No oil in commercial quantity was found at the Teak-4A appraisal well, located in the West Cape Three Points (WCTP) Block, offshore Ghana, partners at the Jubilee fields announced May 3, 2012.
The Teak-4A well was targeting the stratigraphic extension of the Teak discovery area, but Kosmos Energy, who is the operator of the WCTP with a 30.8% interest, said “the well encountered thin, non-commercial reservoirs and is being plugged and abandoned.”
In a statement, Kosmos said partners have begun integrating the well results into the Teak field model to determine forward appraisal and development plans.
The well was drilled by the Atwood Hunter rig to a total depth of 2,850 meters (9,348 feet) in water depth of 554 meters (1,817 feet).
British-based oil firm Afren Plc also failed to find oil at its Nunya-1x exploration well in the Keta block offshore Ghana. The company confirmed in a statement April 25, 2012.
Aside Kosmos Energy, other partners at the West Cape Three Points Block include Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (30.875%), Tullow Oil plc (26.396%), Sabre Oil & Gas Holdings Ltd. (1.854%), and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10% carried interest).
