Omanhene of Bekwai visits AngloGold Ashanti

  • anglo goldNana Karikari Appau II, President of Bekwai Traditional Council in the Ashanti Region, has commended AngloGold Ashanti for its social investment projects for the people in the communities, and urged other companies to follow its example.

    Nana Karikari Appau II was speaking at Obuasi, where the traditional council had called on AngloGold Ashanti executives to discuss a number of social and economic issues in the Amansie area, and noted that besides thousands of Ghanaians employed by the company, AGA social investments have in no small way contributed to the socio-onomic development of the Bekwai Traditional area.

    He expressed his appreciation toward the inauguration of the Community Trust Fund, for which AngloGold Ashanti provided a seed-money of US$4million to support community development in the mining communities, and pledged his support for the ongoing transformation of the Obuasi Mine to increase production and profitability to meet the company’s commitments to stakeholders.

    For his part, Mr. Fred Attakumah – – Vice President Sustainability of AngloGold Ashanti — thanked the President of the Bekwai Traditional Council and his elders, adding that “AngloGold Ashanti will continue to work hand in hand with all stakeholders to grow the mine for the mutual benefit of its stakeholders as long as the company continues to operate”.

    In line with the company’s values, Mr. Attakumah said “communities and societies where AngloGold Ashanti operates will benefit from our presence”, and thanked the traditional council for their support.
    The delegation was given a tour of the offices of the AngloGold Ashanti Community Trust Fund, where they learnt abourt activities of the Trust fund.

    Also present were Senior Manager Sustainability, Mr. Aboagye Ohene-Adu; Managers of the Community and Social Development Unit; Nana Ampofo¬Bekoe and Mr. Elton Annan.
