Established as a citizen-led statutory body under Section 51 of the Petroleum Revenue Management (PRMA) Act 815, to provide an independent oversight over the collection, allocation and utilization of Ghana’s petroleum revenues, the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) is statutorily required by the Act 815 to produce two separate and independent assessments in the form of reports.
The semi-annual and annual reports focus on how efficient, transparent and accountable petroleum revenue management by the government and relevant institutions is. Since 2011, PIAC has produced five (5) annual reports and five (5) semi – annual reports.
As part of the committee’s efforts to expand its data sources and include citizens in the reporting process, to be able to make their views and suggestions reflect in the final report, PIAC placed an advert in the Daily Graphic of Wednesday, February 8, 2017, captioned, “PUBLIC INTEREST AND ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE (PIAC) SOLICITATION OF INFORMATION FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC: 2016 ANNUAL REPORT”, to solicit inputs from the general public as it begins the process of compiling its 2016 Annual reports on the management of petroleum revenue.
Based on this call, citizens and other key stakeholders can now contribute to shaping the 2016 PIAC report by sending in comments, recommendations and concerns pertaining to the governance and management of petroleum revenues in Ghana for the year 2016.
Penplusbytes as part of its role in leveraging technology and knowledge for enhancing good governance in the extractive industry in Ghana, has rolled out a public campaign to create greater awareness about this window of opportunity and promote citizen and public participation in the process via other digital mediums. Citizens can now send their input and general information via an online form at http://ow.ly/nuFE308NMxa. Submissions deadline for Penplusbytes public campaign is Wednesday February 15, 2017.
Interested persons can also send contributions directly to the Coordinator of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), P.O Box CT 9807, Cantonments, Accra, Telephone numbers 0302-242006. Email: secretariate@piacghana.org.
