Hon. John-Peter Amewu, is a Cost Engineer by profession with a broader knowledge in the Energy and Mining Industry. He is a co-founder of Africa Centre for Energy Policy– ACEP where he worked as the Director of Policy and Research and provided pro-active and comprehensive policy related advice to support a variety of Government and Private Sector Projects.
Hon.Amewu holds a MBA (Finance) from University of Ghana, Legon and Post Graduate Executive MBA in International Energy Industry Management and Masters in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee (UK). He has participated and undergone several mining professional training and attained various certificates from some prestigious Universities in Australia (University of Sydney and University of Western Australia).
He has more than 15 years’ experience in Government, Private Sector, Civil Society and International Development Organizations and has participated and undergone several mining professional training and attained various certificates from some Australia’s prestigious Universities (University of Sydney and University of Western Australia). He is the Chairman of Board of Directors of major private institutions in Ghana and a professional international consultant in his area of expertise (Mining and Petroleum). His contributions in providing solutions to the problems in the Energy Sector especially in the area of Renewable Energy Policy, World Fiscal System in Oil, Gas and Mining, Petroleum Taxation, Finance & Petroleum and Mining Revenue Management in Ghana have earned him both local and international acclamation and recognition.
He was the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Hohoe Municipal Assembly from 2005 – 2009 and currently the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta Region. He served as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources from 2016 till later this year when he was appointed the Acting Energy Minister. Hon. Amewu is known for his eloquence, pro-activeness, innovations and analytical skills. He is married with three children.
