Lack of access to information, bid advertisement and inability of Ghanaian companies to win contracts are some challenges facing indigenous companies in the upstream oil & gas sector .To address these challenges, The Petroleum Commission held its first Local Content and Procurement Conference to provide a platform for International Oil Companies (IOCs) to interact with indigenous companies on contract and procurement opportunities in the Ghana’s upstream sector for the year and to share bid winning strategies. Present at the conference were officials from IOCs like ENI, Tullow, Technip, Halliburton, officials from the Petroleum Commission, representatives of indigenous companies like Springfield, Zeal Environmental, the media among others. Head of contracts and procurement, Mr. Alvin Mingle urged indigenous companies to register with the Petroleum Commission to enable them receive firsthand information and invitation to pre-bidding meetings because most of their procurement needs were not advertised but rather relied on the Commission’s list of registered companies.
