Petroleum security committee visits Jubilee field

  • Members of the Petroleum Security Coordinating Committee (PSCC) last Friday visited the Jubilee Field in the Western Region to familiarise themselves with security operations in the field.

    The PSCC is a state body tasked with ensuring the security of the Jubilee Field’s operations and draws its membership from the security and civil services.

    The visit was part of the committee’s programme aimed at fully understanding operations on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Kwame Nkrumah and the general activities in the field.

    The visit also afforded the committee members an opportunity to appreciate the logistics and security challenges related to oil production in the country.

    The team was briefed on operations in the jubilee field in order to have a firsthand information and knowledge about oilfield activities.

    Members of the PSCC showed considerable interest in respect of the challenges posed by the activities of local fishermen in the field.

    Briefing the press after the tour, the national coordinator for the committee, brigadier general Charles Mankatah, noted that the committee members were pleased with the security arrangement made by the Ghana Navy, particularly, around the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

    He remarked that the knowledge gathered would be used to ensure support for the security of the offshore oil and gas assets optimally delivered.

    He cautioned fishermen in the borderline communities not to operate near the exclusion zone.

    Brigadier Mankatah stressed that the committee had confidence in the steps taken by the Ghana navy and other security services to protect the jubilee field and its assets.

    “In the oil and gas industry, security and safety issues remain top always. It is therefore not out of order that as a committee, we undertake such routine visits to apprise ourselves of development and operations in the field,” he added.

    He congratulated Tullow Oil, operator of the field, on high level of environment, health and safety (EHS) standards exhibited by personal on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

    Joseph Klemesu, Takoradi area manager of Tullow Oil Ghana limited disclosed that the jubilee field had been operating activity for nearly two years band indicated his outfit welcomed the views of all the critical partners who played significant roles to ensure its success.

    “The visit is one of such important fact- finding trips because the PSCC has a mandate that directly impacts our operations,” he pointed out.
