  • Public-Interest-and-Accountability-Committee-PIAC-Jobs-in-GhanaThe Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has launched a five-year strategic plan, which will need $9,424,832 to implement. At the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, the Committee appealed to donor partners as well as government to support them in order to achieve their objectives. The vision of the Committee is to fulfil the mandate of ensuring the efficient management of Petroleum Revenue for sustainable development in the country. Its mission is ensuring efficient, transparent and accountable management of petroleum revenues and investments to secure the greatest social and economic benefit for the people of Ghana through active engagement with government and the citizenry. PIAC believes this is accomplished by maintaining a balance stance, winning high integrity and remaining independent of sectional influence. The five year strategic plan includes: Strengthening internal structures and operations of PIAC Create conditions for sustainable resource mobilization. Improve visibility of PIAC Create platforms for effective citizen engagement Build strategic partnerships and institutional linkages across PIAC major stakeholders. Speaking with Onua FM, the Assistant Chairman of the Committee, Kwame Jantua, said “it is high time we monitored and evaluated the activities of petroleum revenues in the country”. He stated that the discovery of oil in Ghana is not enough if there are no mechanisms put in place to check how much is being generated annually on a regular basis. In another interview, the newly elected chairman of the Committee, Joseph Winful, admitted that PIAC is not responsible for the prosecution of petroleum revenue offenders though he entreated those in charge to be up and doing any time they come up with committee findings. The outgoing Chairman of PIAC, Prof. Paul Kingsley Buah-Bassuah, urged the media to also do a follow-up on findings and activities of the Committee to report on malpractices by any stakeholder in the managing, monitoring and evaluating of petroleum revenues.
