PRESS RELEASE: NEW GENERAL MANAGER OF TULLOW GHANA LIMITED TAKES OFFICE

  • mr darkuTullow Oil Plc announces the assumption of the office of Mr Charles Darku as the General Manager of Tullow Ghana limited with the effect from Monday, August 19th, 2013. Mr Darku takes over from Mr Dai Jones, who led the management of the company from 2008 to 2013; seeing the company through the development of the Jubilee Project, First oil and the approval of the plan of development of the TEN projects. He is now moving to the head of state in London.

    Mr Darku joins Tullow from the Ghana power sector where he most recently served as chief Executive Officer of Ghana Grid Company ( GRIDCo), leading the management team to successfully pioneer its early development as a first rate transmission services provider. Prior to that Charles held senior positions with the Volta River Authority. He is a graduate of Harvard University where he holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration, and also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

    An electrical engineer by profession, Mr Darku is the first Ghanaian General Manger of Tullow Ghana limited. He brings his wealth of varied experience in managing assets in the energy sector to bear on burgeoning oil and gas industry.
    Commenting on the appointment, Mr David Lawrie, Regional Business Manager of Tullow’s North and West Africa region said:

    “Charles is an accomplished business leader and professional engineer who bring to Tullow his over 30 years of experience in the Ghana energy sector. Over the last ten years, Charles has worked on new business development, international joint ventures transactions, public-private partnerships, negotiations and structuring of independent power plants, engineering planning, all of which are areas where he will bring welcome new sights and experience to our growing business in Ghana”.

    Mr Darku said of his appointment: “this is a responsibility I accept with humility and a sense of optimism on account of the good foundation laid by my predecessor, Dai Jones. Together with the team and partners, I will build on this foundation to affirm and underscore the legacy of a world class oil and gas company as a model for Ghana and the rest of Africa. I would like to use this opportunity to acknowledge all our partners and stakeholders for their contribution so far and toassure them of my commitment to the continued success of the industry in Ghana.
