Speaker Admits Motion To Cancel Ameri Agreement

  • The Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye has admitted a motion filed by the Member of Parliament, (MP) for Adansi-Asokwa Kobina Tahir Hammond to cancel the approved the Build, Own and Operate and Transfer Agreement between the Government of Ghana and the Africa and Middle East Resources Investment Group, AMERI ENERGY for the installation of ten aero derivative gas turbines, operate maintain transfer and provision of support services that the House ratified on 20th of March 2015 for reasons of gross misrepresentation.

    Mr. KT Hammond moved the motion for Parliament to consider abrogating the contract.

    The Deputy Majority Leader Sarah Adwoa Safo seconded the Motion and the Speaker gave reasons for the procedure adopted on the Motion and referred it to the Committee on Mines and Energy for consideration and report to the House.

    The Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu was not happy about the fact that there was no comment or debate on the Motion before referral to the Committee.
