  • THE National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated an amount of GH¢150,000 to be used to offset some of the medical bills of the victims of the May 9 gas explosion in Takoradi that injured some 152 persons.

Some corporate organisations and religious bodies have since been donating medical items as well as cash to the 11-member committee established by the Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwake Afriyie, and chaired by the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Gifty Eugenia Kusi, to investigate the circumstances that led to the explosion.

The NPA has representation on the committee assisting with technical support. The latest of its contribution is the donation of GH¢150,000.
Speaking at the presentation, the Executive Director of the NPA, Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli, noted that, apart from authorising the establishment and regulating the various Oil Marketing Companies, “it is also our social responsibility to assist in times like this”.

He added that as “a regulator, we think it’s the right thing to do as others have done, to throw in our support, to be given to the victims as you have been doing already”.
