  • The management of indigenous oil marketing company, Top Oil, are hoping to tap into government’s job creation drive by establishing presence in all 216 districts as way of providing petroleum products at competitive prices while creating jobs for the natives.

Speaking at the opening of the Suhum service outlet, the firm’s sixth in the Eastern region, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the company, Benjamin Atsu-Agbomanyi, said it is the hope of Top Oil to complement government’s signature industrialization drive via the ‘one district, One factory’ initiative.

“Our aim is to get to all the district capitals. Now that the government is advocating ‘one district, one factory,’ it is something we appreciate very much and we would want to also follow the government such that anywhere there’s a factory, Top Oil will be a partner and establish a fuel station in that district.

Already we have some lands in some other districts we are yet to develop, but with the one district one factory, we really also want to be part. So we are targeting all the districts that will have these factories and we shall be there.

We cannot do all our business in Accra and Tema. We need to diversify. We need to create employment for people in the other districts so that people will not be moving from hinterlands to the regional capitals in search of jobs,” Mr. Atsu-Agbomayi said.

The Top Oil CEO and Chairman said government’s move to reduce and remove some of the taxes on petroleum products is very commendable.

According to him, the reduction in the special petroleum tax from 17.5 percent to 15 percent and the removal of the excise tax in the petroleum price build-up will not only benefit the OMCs but consumers as well.

Nevertheless, Mr. Atsu-Agbomayi was optimistic that a further reduction in some of the taxes in the price-build up will be very beneficial especially considering the role played by petroleum products in the economy.

Speaking at the opening of the fuel service station, Gabriel Dari, Municipal Coordinating Director at Suhum Municipal Assembly said the assembly supports initiatives that seek to create jobs for the people in the community.

He said the decision of Top Oil to establish the station was timely and would not just create jobs but would serve the fuel needs of both residents of the community as well as the travelling public as the fuel station is located along Accra-Kumasi highway.

Mr. Dari added that the fuel station must stick to a rigid fire and safety standards as a team from the assembly would insist on regularly inspecting and ensuring that such standards are not compromised.

The opening ceremony was attended by traditional leaders of Suhum, selected security chiefs from the region, various transport unions as well as other invited guests.
